Theresa was the fearless champion of Outtake Productions. She always led with a steady, comforting hand, made each person feel like they could accomplish anything and was the one to implement on set family dinners- all while bringing to life characters and worlds we will never forget. When the idea for Kith & Kin first came up, we were visiting my family, sitting in the porch swing (on what would one day become the Dumont front porch) staring out at the mountains. For the next year we worked on perfecting the script, casting, fundraising and preparing for production on this new adventure. Unfortunately, 2020 had new plans for us and ultimately we had to postpone production to 2021. We never imagined she wouldn't be here to see that happen and when she passed unexpectedly, it became clear that our team would finish this journey with her in our hearts. She was there, in everything we did, every step of the way and I hope she's so very proud of this series. -Melissa Malone
THERESA LABREGLIO CREATOR STATEMENT
I grew up in a city. I didn't know that people lived any other way. I didn't realize that for some people, it took an hour to go to the store for milk. What if there’s an emergency? What if it’s life or death? The setting of Kith and Kin is just this; an elderly couple living in the middle of nowhere call their three daughters home to visit. What could go wrong?
I'm an only child, so I love seeing a sister dynamic. I’m fascinated by the very nature of sisters and what it would be like to have them. They never disappoint in pop culture- Charmed, Practical Magic, even Frozen offered me an insight into sisterhood and there’s something about that unbreakable bond that I can’t shake. For the most part, no matter how different they are, the bottom line is love and they will do anything to protect each other; even when their morals are challenged.
City girl or not, I’ve learned a lot about the country in the past few years, thanks to my spouse and many trips there to visit my in-laws. It’s a setting brimming with possibility. So when this idea came up- a family thriller with sisterhood at its center, set in the mountains, I had to jump on it! I love these characters. I love this setting. My hope is that when you watch Kith & Kin, you’ll fall in love with these amazing sisters, be awed by the scenery, and feel at home; even in the darkest moments of the Dumont family. But more than anything I can’t wait to see who you root for.
